Hi guys! Sunday morning I came out and found one of my chickens with a severely impacted crop. I separated her without food, keeping her with water, gave her 1mL of apple cider vinegar. 10mL of olive oil, and massaged her crop multiple times a day. On Monday it was still there so she got more olive oil, more massaging. She seemed to start pooping out a bunch of sand which we are thinking is what was impacted. This morning we came out and her crop seemed to be fully empty. We tried to give her a little food. 4 hours later her crop seems to still be holding it in. She has a tiny bit of grit in with her, we are still massaging, and a vet told me to give her a very small amount of bread. How long can she go without eating any real food? And how long does this normally take to clear up? I feel discouraged that it seemed to stay filled up after thinking we were in the clear

Sorry your bird is having troubles. How old is she? Do you know when she last laid? How often is she having droppings and other than the sand one(s?) what are they looking like? Is she drinking? Crop problems can take some time to narrow down, and causes can be varied. I will link to a couple of good articles that have lots of information to help. It can be parasites, a reproductive problem, an impaction from ingesting something that won't pass, etc.
