what treatment for an impacted egg? I believe this is what is causing my hen to continuously try and lay or poop but only small drops of whitish clear liquid come out of the vent. Would appreciate any information.

here is what I learned about treating a hen with an impacted egg. Lubricate the stretched vent tissue with warm olive oil. If the area is inflammed, clean it gently with warm water, dry with a clean soft cloth. Apply Preparation H.
I called my vet and took my hen to the Emergency Pet Clinic. The vet soaked her in a warm bath, lubricated the tissue and the egg came lose and out. It was huge and shaped too big in diameter to come out the vet said.

First, Welcome to BYC

I am glad that you/your vet was able to remove the egg from your poor hen. I know that she must have been suffering and would have surely died if it had not been removed.

From what I have read on here, most vets will not treat chickens, because they do not know enough about them, so congrats. on having a vet that knows about chickens.

First off...how long has this been going on and is this the first time it has happened or is this more of a chronic occurence ???
How old is your bird? What breed?
What do you feed and what is the environment 9incl outside temps and such) she lives in?
