I have a hen named Buffy (a buff Brahma) that has had crop issues basically her whole life. When she gets bad I give her some mineral oil to loosen it up and I manually empty the crop when it gets gross. This has kept her going. A day or two ago she got really bad and neither of those things was helping her. She became weak, wouldn't stand up, had her eyes closed and was just sitting there trembling. She didn't try to get away when I went to pick her up and I just knew she was a goner. I went to close the coop last night and just knew she would be dead.
Before I just gave up on her, I went to Tractor Supply to see if I could find something to help. I bough this Probios Dispersible Powder in the horse section to see if it would help. I gave her some last night but still expected to see her dead this morning. To my extreme pleasant surprise she was not only alive but sitting on the back of a chair! (she was hiding on the floor the night before) This morning she is her usual perky self. She ate scrambled eggs that I gave her and went and got a drink of water.
I think these probiotics saved her life! I plan on using them for her on a regular basis now.
I wanted to share this because I knew about feeding yogurt and such for the probiotic benefits but this was a great find. Hopefully this can help someone else in a similar situation.
Yay!
