IMPORTANT ! Question about jap quail

Has anyone had there Japanese quail hatch on day 16 ?

Does the eggs get heavier wen they hav chicks in ?

Have one hatched now day 16 and looks like another pip.

I've never hatched any, but that doesn't seem far fetched.

I am on my 3rd Jap/Coturnix/Pharoah quail group in the incubator. If you run your temps up around 101-102 which i do, it is not unheard if having chics pip out on day 15. Most all mine hatched out on day 16-17 on first 2 batches and had a few that stayed in til 18.

Genetics play a big role in hatch times, but if it happens often it may be due to high temperatures in your incubator. Be sure to check temp with 3 thermometers for accuracy.

Eggs typically lose weight as they incubate. They lose appx 10-12% of their weight by hatch. Infertile eggs will lose weight as well so this isn't an effective way to check viability.

Usually they'll hatch on day 17 if everything went well.

I had the one early hatch, but thats all on day 16, looks like we'll have another soon.

They'll start hatching as soon as you forget them and get involved in something you can't quit.
