Impossible to sex Polish? Maybe not...

I’ve ALWAYS read online and heard from chicken “experts” that polish are extremely hard to sex. Some even say it’s near impossible. Now, I’ve only gotten into chicken this past year. I am nowhere NEAR an expert by any means. I still learn something new every day. As with many chicken hobbyists, I HAD to have a polish in my flock. Not only did I want a polish, I needed a frizzle! I was hanging out with my four 3 week old hatchlets the other day when I noticed ONE of the four looked like he had horns. I googled it and found nothing. I examined every chick very closely and there is NOTHING above the other chicks beak, just the “horns” on the one. Could this be a sure fire way to tell if it’s a rooster? If I had a rooster with 3 hens I’d feel like a lucky gal :)

I’m attaching a photo where you can CLEARLY see the difference. The top is the suspected hen and the bottom is my little guy with horns :) And yes, they perch on me and give me that look everyday! I love them.

Too young. Please post pics of their combs, crests, no saddle feathers at 12 weeks.

Note: they have a V comb. That's what you are seeing.
Also, polish are not really that hard to sex.

I don’t have updated photos, but so far the one that I guessed to be a rooster (picture with the “horns”) is getting his streamers, large red waddles, and all rooster characteristics. The other is still all hen so far :) I have two other chicks from this same hatch, both without the “horns” and are still looking like pullets :) They have absolutely nothing above their beak and no evidence of waddles what so ever.

I’ll get some updated photos this week!

I'm super excited to see pics!!! :)

I figured I would update this thread now that my girls are fully grown. The bottom guy in my original photo was indeed a rooster and the top was a pullet :) The three that didn’t have “horns” at two weeks old were all pullets. I kept two and they are the favorite of all my girls :)

Beautiful. The one on the left has excellent lacing.
