I know lots of BYC members are hatch-a-holics, so I'm just wondering, what kind of imprinting experiences have you guys had?

I've heard that chickens have the ability to imprint on the first thing that they see when they are young. Could this be a crucial learning time to teach them something like a call for them to come to you when they're older? If they imprint on you, is that an advantage or a disadvantage?

If you have any cool or fun chicken/duck/goose or any other fowl imprinting story, please share it with me! I'd love to hear about it :)

I think my first-born chick imprinted on my hand. Whenever s/he sees it s/he runs towards it. When s/he was first moved to the brooder, I started tapping the food dish and s/he ran over and started doing the same.
Super cute.
The hatch mates will do the same, but not as fiercely as the first baby. S/he doesn't cheep like crazy when I'm not there, but s/he gets really excited when s/he sees or even hears me.
