*Imput Needed* Chick Care Sheet

We are doing a women's night at my kids school and I'd love to have a copy to post with my 'Owning chickens' set-up. That's great having all of that information in one place. I have a friend who is getting chicks for the first time this year. I'll give her one too!

I know many people put paper towells over their shaving for the first week or so. I don't. The chicks do peck at the shavings but I have never seen them eat them. I also get vitamins with electrolytes in the chicks water the first couple of weeks. The pkgs usually say that the pkg will make 110 gals mol depending on the brand we buy. I mix a 1/4 tsp of vitamins with electrolytes in 5 gals of water and put it in milk jugs for the ease of filling their waterers.

General brooder set up should include that the chicks need enough room to get away from the light if they get to warm.
Also include a warning that chicks ae prone to drowning in a water dish if proper measures are not used to protect them. marbles or small stones in the dish etc. I have heard of chicks falling asleep in even very shallow water and drowning.

Very nice project, sounds like they should keep you home from school more often.

Okay guys! Thanks! Anyone and Everyone can use this list once it's done and published! I will add the other information and do some editing.

Anything else guys?

I read in one of the poultry keeping books that I got from the library that if several babies paste up it could be due to getting chilled. It says that if pasting up continues to be a problem even though they are warm enough, to mix up a little corn meal or ground up raw oats in with their starter. Should help clear it up . I have never tried this but am keeping it in mind in case I have this trouble.

Great care sheet! I already found some helpful information that I didn't know before (using medicated feed then switching to non-medicated after a week). So much to learn, it's nice to have the basics all in one place
