In case you havent heard about this yet

This thread is good in respect to the mixed emotions and opinions on it

there was reason why the actions where justified and reason why they where not

now deviating a little The Story of Winston

watch this video and ask your self why was this allowed to continue

I think there where 4 police cars present there

not one officer took armed action and played cat and mouse

infact the DOG was sentenced to 2 years prohibition and an order to attend obedience school that's it

now watch the video (no dogs or humans were harmed and its not violent so don't worry)

and ask your self was this not a case of shoot the dog and if it was not the case then why shoot the coloured guys dog

in this video aswell the dog is feral so all the more reason to shoot it it was not protecting its owner or anything it was just plain attacking

(btw I found this video on YouTube but came to know of it from a program called when animals attack and that has a better insight and explanation of the situation and also the aftermath and what happened to the DOG afterwards, I could not find a clipping of the program but if I do I will upload it)

All I will say is the dog died of natural causes a year later
Sorry if I offend but I would have helped the dog to die of natural causes, because if you get shot several times you will die naturally.

I think the main difference with this situation is that they didn't have a human suspect involved while these dogs were attacking that police car. When that is the case, I believe the full attention needs to be on the human suspect because ultimately, they are more dangerous. Unfortunately, sometimes that means an ill fate for aggressive animals in the area.

In the situation above, I am not totally clear on what is happening. I can't really tell if the dog is attacking or playing. I would have to see what made the dog go after the police car in the first place.

In any case, I would much rather see a dog put to sleep chemically by a vet's hand than via gun shot by someone who is not trained to euthanize animals. Sometimes, this just isn't possible though.

This was sad. I did not want to see the video, but the description was enough. But, despite the action being rash, cops see a lot of aggressive dogs in cases. There was a emergency report to some cops about 3 pitbulls tearing a woman apart on the street, just shredding her. I'm willing to bet that happens all the time, and if so, the cops do have a reason to use weapons.

However, I strongly disagree with their actions in the report that the OP posted. That just was not fair, nor just.

I also do not believe hthat all pitbulls are bad. It is just how they are bred and whether or not they have good training and a good family.

omg, I watched both video's. As an animal lover it was already stated, watching the poor dog get shot was awful.

The fact that anyone, would drive up to a police investigation would music blaring, leave it like that, then bring their big dog out, is disturburbing. really...

I have a GS, the police came to our house for something that happened at neighbors. looking for info. We live in the sticks, neighbors house fairly far away. My dog, told me someone pulled in our lane, I looked out window, saw it was police, and put him in his crate. My property, was gonna go outside and talk to police anyways. Why put him in crate, because a 120 pound dog, lunging at windows while police investegation is going on is stupid to allow.

Why on earth, would this man stop, leave his music on, and walk that close to a police scene?

Another time, on a path in the bush, I love to walk everyday with my dog, police were there, police dogs, police divers, something was defiantly going on. (strange for this small town in Canada) I went home, put my dog in house, then went back to walking area to be nosy. Why not take my dog? Cause it's already caos why bring a big dog into the mix? That would be stupid, why get in the way? Police are there for a reason, most likely to protect me and my family of the things I'm afraid off :(

Now after watching the dog get shot, horrible, cried, the poor dog, he did what he knows, protect his master. to bad master was such a fool. Yes perhaps, police officer could have grabbed leash, perhaps, he could have gotten the dog under control.

Police officer has no idea, what dog is trained to do, He could be trained to only bite his hand, with how much strength? Rotti's have a very strong jaw. If it's only his hand, I guess that's ok, he loses his job and lively hood. Because now his hand doesn't work.. Perhaps his house, because now he needs months of rehabilation.

Or maybe dog, takes out his officers throat, and a child loses his father, a wife, loses her husband.

I ask again, who in their right mind, dog or no dog. Blares music, and walks that close to police doing their job.

Don't get me wrong I love animals, and this did not need to happen. Very sad and really feel for all involved. One needs to remember what a dangerous job police officers have and that they are trained to deal with "worst case"

I was driving last month and got pulled over by an officer on a highway. I pulled over, of course. So I'm Canadian, (in Canada)I look like a very average soccor Mom around here. (not saying looks have anything to do with it) But so now I'm pulled over. I get my insurance, liscence ready, then realize, my ownership is in glove compartment. I wait for officer to come to my car, hand him what I have, explain car is new to me, ownership is in glove compartment. Can I get it. Why on earth would I dig through my glove compartment when an officer is aproching my car? They have a dangerous job, and are trained to watch for people digging for things. I'm not putting anyone's safty at risk, by doing that. Common sense no?

Point is, this man acted like a jerk, not the dogs fault. Feel very bad for dog. Would never put my GS in that situation. Nor myself for that matter. If i lived on that street, and wanted to go home, you know what I would do. Keep on driving, call police station, tell them who I am, where I live. And ask what they can tell me. And ask for their OP for when would be a good time to go home. or I would go to neighbors house, hang out there, from a safe distance till things got under control.
I would not walk around, blaring music, distracting officers from the job at hand.
