At least a coyote, perhaps a coyote/wolf cross that is said to be in these parts. The carcass is a deer, taken overnight and now being consumed by 12-24 black crows and, so far, this one. There will be more while I count the days until it disappears.
I read that we have "Eastern Wolf". "eastern wolf is intermediate in size between the coyote and gray wolf, with females weighing 23.9 kilograms (53 lb) on average and males 30.3 kilograms (67 lb)".
I saw a second about two weeks back, I was driving, it was 20 feet away, seemingly no concern. [Picture below is a "stock" image from the internet, NOT mine.]
Wow, incredible view! That would be amazing to witness (as long as all your chickens and livestock are safe). I can't help it, I have always been fascinated by wolves.
Just as long as he doesn't discover that there is a chicken buffet nearby, enjoy.
Wolves are such magnificent animals. We don't have anything near us like that although we do have 'coydogs' reported which are crosses between coyotes and of course, dogs. A neighbor was telling us that there are several people who swear that they have seen lone timber wolves around us. Could be. We are having cougar repopulating the area along with black bears to the south.
Predators, gotta love em. They sure keep us on our toes.
Staying alert is good!
So far we don't yet have wolves, bears, or cougars. It's fine with me. Definitely would need to be more careful hiking when any of them move down here.
Especially glad to not have brown bears!
