I finally got a 50# bag of play sand to use for chick grit, since I couldn't find it anywhere. I thought "OK, I'll use a cup of this and then I'll sprinkle the rest of in their run when I put them in the big-chicken-coop." Well, every morning I've been putting a little pile of the sand in a small dish. They come RUNNING for it.
Some of it gets scooted out into their shavings, but a lot of it gets eaten. Should I continue to give it to them or should they have gotten all the grit they need? Why do they love it so much? I give them chicken scratch too (they, of course, get starter rations as their main food), but the grit seems to be the big draw.
