I have a gosling. I have no idea how old she is or the breed because I got her from a flea market and they know nothing besides the fact that she would be white. I recently ran out of commercial chick starter yesterday and was wondering if she would be okay with scratch mixed grains, lettuce and grass for three days? I can get her more chick starter on Sunday! Another question is at what age do they develop their oil glands and how will I know? Second question is how long does it take for them to change colors? And finally how long does she stay on starter feed, how do I change her to the next food and when do I change the next food up? Sorry for so many questions!

If she doesn't have access to grit then I wouldn't feed her anything other than chick starter. They need grit to be able to process their food. since they don't have teeth to chew it up. You could go out and cut her a nice piece of sod with dirt attached and put it in her brooder and she could get her grit from the soil. keep on starter till 3 weeks of age then go to grower or an all flock. if you get an all flock she won't have to change again she can stay on it for her whole life. but her main diet should be fresh grass and greens. chopped Romaine lettuce, . kale , collards but they all have to chopped up and she will need grit. She probably has her oil gland already mine did at 2 days old when I got them, when she bathes she'll use the oil gland to preen her feathers and rub the oily wax on to her feathers for water proofing. If you decide to let her swim never leave a young gosling in the water with out supervision, they can tire out get water logged and drown. Mine did love to play in the tub though at 1 week old, i put an old towel in the bottom to keep them from slipping. What color is your gosling now yellow, i read you said she would be white, around 4-6 weeks their start changing and their feathers begin to start coming in. can you post pics of your baby and maybe we can give you an idea of her age. Here's a pic of one of mine at 4 weeks old with her mama.

Outside of your house you don't have dirt and grass? or can you go to a park near by and dig some, If they don't have grit they can get an impacked and become very sick. I'm sorry your dad is in the hospital but maybe another family member can take you to the park or grocery store and in the pet food isle where they sell things for caged pet birds you can get a small box of bird grit. Looks like a white Chinese gosling and maybe 2 weeks old.
