Hey BYC!
I just got a pekin and rouen on the 24th of April. They have been best friends ever since, with the occasional bite of the other, but last night, my pekin stepped on my rouen's foot and she tried to get up, but couldn't. I think she sprained her right leg/food/hip, but I don't know. This morning, she is barely able to walk. She mainly just sits and tries to scoot herself around, but it is a lot of work for her. Now, my pekin has grown much faster, and does not understand that Daisy is hurt, so she just keeps pushing her around (not in an aggressive way at all), but I think it is making it worse. We tried to seperate them, but that backfired and they were more anxious than ever looking for the other. I REALLY need help BYC!! What do I do to help Daisy get better and to have Peanut not push her around?!

Thank you all!!

Rest and water therapy are both good, warm water to relieve pressure and keep mobility while healing. as for the Pekin being pushy you could try putting somekind of screen down between them so the Pekin can't get to the Rouen right now, hopefully after a few days she'll be good as new. you could try them in the water together though. plastic poultry fencing works good or window screen just something where they can still see each other but not be able to get pushed around right now. I'd also think about getting some Plain niacin and start giving some to your duckling in their water or brewers yeast sprinkled on their feed, they grow so fast and can get leg issues lameness from not getting adequate niacin especially if being fed chick starter which most use since not everyone can get duckling starter. 100mgs to 1 gal of water. if you can't find plain niacin B complex will work too.

Okay! I got some Niacin 100mgs. I will put that in her water. I am also going to try to put her in a bath. I thought they weren't supposed to swim until ~4 wks old so I haven't done that yet, but I will try tonight and towel dry her off.

If you or anyone else can think of anything, PLEASE let me know. These little duckies have stolen my heart and I can't imagine losing one of them.

Thank you!!!

They can swim with supervision but not long enough to get water logged and just enough water to stand or barely float. then you take them out pat dry and put them right back into brooder to finish drying and warm up, use warm water. around 80* you know how you test for bathing baby using elbow something similar for making sure water isn't too warm.
