In the home stretch day 18

What's cooler than sitting on the floor with your 4 year old watching a chick zip and then hatch?

6 out 10 to go..

Ok Clay, what's the final chick tally?

Absolutely nothing. I've got a 4 year old grandson that loves to come to Grandma JoJo's and play with the chickens. I'm going to have to plan my next hatch so he can be there to watch.

So far 3 Amaraucanas (out of 4) and 5 BCMS (out of 12). BUT one of th eBCMs I had to help out this morning. It had zipped last night around 2:00AM and at 6:00 hadn't made ANY progress. It was shuck top the shell.

I'm a little disappointed. At 18 days I candled and all 16 eggs (4 Amaraucnas and 12 BCMs) were moving. Temp and humidity haven't varied much at all. 99.7-99.9 on temp and 82-87% humidity. ANd I kept them around 50% humidity the entire time they were incubated.

I know BCMs can be late hatchers (by a day or so) and today is just day 22. So I'll leave them in there and keep my fingers crossed.

If this is all I get it'll be 5 out of 16 BCMs (31%)
and 3 out of 5 Amaraucnanas (60%)

And the final tally is...

7 Black copper Marans (started with 16)
3 Amaraucanas (started with 5)

I candled the remaining eggs and there is zilch in them... gooo and dead embryos

Pictures to come later.....

That's not bad for shipped eggs Clay - will be awaiting pics. Shabby those are some very pretty little chicks you have there!
