Yea, the older man that was helping this guy still holds the record height for doing this. We tested space suites an escape plans this way back before NASA was NASA an was ran by the air force.
I should hope we did this back in the 60's, since we landed on the moon in the 60's.

Well I know that is a project mogle (spelling) balloon which were being used in the 1940s.. (Roswell crash) So it happened first somewhere between the 1940s an late 1960s. I think the exacts are still classified but never looked in to it.

he did go higher(128,000) ft. previous record was 123,000 and he broke Mach 1(761.2mph) he fell at at high point 833.9 mph or Mach1.24
