in this random rambling thread we post random pictures

I will never understand why we have words that are pronounced the same but not spelled the same am people get upset over which way you spell it. If I can stand face to face with you an speak these words you only need the context to tell them apart. So why when I write them down do you suddenly need them to be different words to keep you from getting confused?

When speaking face to face, or even over a phone, you have other cues to the meaning- body language, inflection, facial expression, etc.
With written language the only cues are in the writing, so it is easier to misunderstand or miscommunicate. Therefore, clarity and precision are critical.

Right or wrong, sloppiness in written communication can imply a sloppy attitude or a lack of education. Your clothing and grooming can impact the way people perceive you. Written communication can convey a similar message and have a similar effect.

For many people bad spelling or bad syntax has an effect similar to fingernails on a blackboard.

You must have one amazing camera. Has it done the cicada noise yet? What does it sound like in a bottle?
Cicada in a bottle. Burl Ives could have sang that as a folk song. Like Froggie went a Courtin'. Get to it young lady, your folk music career beckons

Actually I don't.

It's just a regular camera, Panasonic Lumix something-or-other. There's no way I can afford one of the DSLR cameras, much as I'd love to have one!
It didn't, no. I was really hoping it would, but it "bit" my brother when he held it and then he threw it outside. Lol
I'll have to look that up later!

My grandfather use to play guitar an sing that song to me. He died back when I was around 10 or 12. Last year I sat down an dug threw the hundreds of verses to that song an came up with the version he use to sing to me. Still not right but its as close as I can remember. Still looking for some music to go with it an I may do a youtube video of it one day.

The last thing on earth I would want a recording of is the Cicada's screeching - we have one kind or another every year and it's irritating BUT, when the 17 yr.cicadas descend in the billions, they said an hour of being outside with that racket can result in damage to hearing. They are hideous and even do it at night. We HATES THEM!!

I've never got bitten by one but if they landed on me and I tried to escort them off, they'd scream. I made it my calling in life, to tromp on any pairs of them doing "you know what," on the ground so there would be fewer of them the next time.

I had one of those foreign legend type hats with the back and side flaps as protection. So many of them were flying back and forth, they'd run into everything and everybody. UGH, no one wants a cicada landing on them. The seagulls snap them out of the air., other birds eat everything but the wings.

We have a group that comes out every 13 years an one every 7 years. If I am remembering my timing right. In 1998 both hit on the same year.Friends were on the river one day when I got out of college. I had the top off my Jeep with the windshield layed flat on the hood. Here I was on the highway with the Tn river on my right an the wooded mountain side on my left. 70 MPH an tires a humming when I see I black fog come out of the trees an cover the road. All I could do is lay down in the seat an drive by looking at the line on the side of the road. Painted the seats, the roll bar an the whole front of the jeep with Cicada remains Hate those bugs.
