in this random rambling thread we post random pictures

There is a fair bit of bad info in there. They are using bag and valve masks and tell you to do 30 to 2 breaths. That would put most people off. The British one shows in the video what the American one says at the end in writing. Also, the pops and cracks they mention are the persons ribs breaking! If you draw a line from nipple to nipple, go 2 finger width up and put the heel of your hand onto that spot with your other hand on top with fingers laced through. They very rarely just breath and sit up, they need a defibrilator but you do keep the blood circulating until the professionals arrive.

Check out the British one with Vinnie Jones in it

Those were filmed to be PSAs. The FD one was a more of a spoof to sink an idea in to the heads of the people in it an to be a fun intro for future classes.

The thing with CPR is that the method changes every year here. We learn an adapt. We also have two places that make standards that dont always agree. As I understand it at the time of filming the normal method for single person CPR was 30 an 2 an the bag an mask is required for firemen in the US an would not have been aloud to film mouth to mouth.
Current thinking for the average person is just chest compressions an no breathing for someone you dont know an if firemen dont have a mask they also do it this way. This is a real new concept. If its your family then 30 a 2 is probably still best. Its just in the middle of being fazed out for non trained people.

Yes ribs breaking is the sound you hear at the start but it is not common for us to tell people that cause it makes people hesitate an not push hard enough. I have done CPR hundreds of times in my life an at this point I dont think you can do it wrong short of not pushing very hard anyway. The act of trying is the main thing. 15-1 vs 30-2 v/s just compressions just change the odds they they survive by a small amount..

Not sure I would want an untrained person touching a AED though. Even trained people end up in the ER over misused of them. I have broke some of the rules more than once my self..

I suppose it is different 'out there'. We have a 4 min response time and they say the person takes a breath in as they collapse. You should be able to push the oxygen round for 4 mins with no damage.
Defibs in the hands of muggles? Heavens no! I meant the response team.

Learn and adapt is right. We used to sing 'Nelly the Elephant' 60-2

Muggles lol..

Scary as the idea is, there is a big push here to have AEDs in public places for anyone to grab an use like fire extinguishers are now. I understand why but it will end badly..

4 minutes would be a fast response here. Closer to 10.

Not sure I want to ask but Nelly the Elephant?

Sgt.Mom, Thank you, I may never use the toilet again!!
