That's funny I don't recall them being on Star Trek but that's because they probably weren't famous yet. I know when I used to watch marathons of old series, I'd get a kick out of the actors I recognized who were so young back then.

A lot of them appeared in the Star Trek movies. Some of course, are so heavily made up, they may be hard to recognize, for example:

Christopher Plummer

Wallace Shawn (Deep Space Nine)

This guy is great. He loves them, they love him. Reminds me of my riding back in the day, bare back..that was my favorite way to ride. Never taught the tricks though. :D I love the part where he is playing with one like a puppy dog.

hmm maybe i'll give it a shot as a stocking stuffer. Thanks.

But does what those kids are doing really count as reading? I've seen those books; maybe one sentence on a page, and big, garish illustrations with (to misquote a columnist) "no text to get in the way of the action." If the kids were to watch that episode of the show with the captions on, they would read at least 10 times as many words in the same story. The iPad might even be able to take them to a website with interactive games based on those characters that required reading to advance in the game.

That is true, but I love the feel of a book, turning pages, not swiping them. There are advantages to digital reading too. I love my kindle, but sometimes I just need to hold onto a big, thick volume of pages where i can disappear for a while.
