They definitely go where they want to go, but in a pen, as long as they can't see daylingt on the other side, they'll stay put. They're not water turtles, they're large tortoises (200 pounds fully grown) and don't swim. They CAN swim for a short period of time defensively, but they tire quickly and will drown. They don't float so it's a struggle for them to stay above water. We do have a shallow mud pit (like a few inches deep) for them to wallow in and flip mud into their backs, and they will soak when I flood the yard once a week. Other than that, they're poorly suited to water. :)

Not knowing and asking questions so to learn is not what I'd consider stupid. One of the smartest things humans can do, in my opinion. I spend my whole day saying the same thing over and over.

"Why?"

Sometimes it's because I need/want to know, and sometimes it's because I really what whomever I'm talking to to think through what they're saying, but I'm a big believer in sharing knowledge and being the teacher and student simultaneously.
