I literally watched one..only larger, do this a couple of weeks ago. There were three hawks cruising pretty high up. All of a sudden one put his wings back, and just drops several feet. Fast way to get closer to ground. Not sure if he saw something while up high like that. Pretty cool. They are so graceful in flight.
