It's not just important for women, however, but men too, to be aware of such violence being pushed onto themselves, which I find rather upsetting about the VAWA. Domestic issues are surprisingly common and can happen to anyone. It's unfair that this act only covers one sex, as I honestly see men being forced around and unwillingly having unkind hands laid upon them more than I see women do. So much for double standards.

Historically, nationally and world wide, far far more sexual base violence is comited by men against women than women against men. The severity of the damage in these violent encounters are usually larger when against men.

In the US the victims of violence, particularly sexual based violence is greatest against Native Women than any other ethnic group of gender.
