This is what we would all see if there were not so many lights on all over. It's called "light pollution" and it makes our nights darker and less beautiful, IMO

I have certain family members who like to drop by or call in the middle of the night.
I once scared one of them by saying " are you on fire? you better be on fire, because that is the only POSSIBLE reason you would be waking me up at... (looks at clock) 3 AM..."

Here's another nice staircase, in a cloister in Mantova, Italy. You simply take it one step at a time.

And this staircase goes up from a river to the street above, in a very small town in northern Italy. Just slabs of stone jutting out from the wall, with one broken/missing. I climbed up it right after taking the photo, it was a little wet and slippery, but that just makes it more fun. At least there is a handrail, on the wall side. I don't think it would pass inspection codes in the USA.
