It is probably because the days are shorter and they need more light.
Mine are old and need more light.

Here in the Rusia the day when we have the sun begin at 11:00 and finish at 18:00. This is too short. Of course in 10:00 we no are in totally darkness but sunlight not enough in this time. I use the lamps for my fowl. Here are two lamps in new room for the ducks.

Opps, maybe i write in a russian time system... 18:00 is 6:00 PM.
10:00 is 10 AM.

That's military time or 24 hour time. Used in hospitals, too
