Here in our area, we call them Paints..or we get a real nasty look. Not sure they don't want to call them Pinto.

orum..beautiful horse! Can tell she's a love for sure. :)

Anybody that glares at you for calling a horse a pinto is flaunting their own ignorance. Horses don't present their registration papers when you see them, how are you supposed to know that the animal is a registered Paint? And if it doesn't happen to be registered, it's only a pinto, whatever the owner may think.

The Paint horse registry was created for the offspring of registered Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses that had too much white on them for them to be registered in their parents' respective registries. You can still register these "crop outs" as Paints; though the requirement on white has been relaxed a bit by the AQHA. A rather famous (and famously deaf) Quarter Horse Stallion, Colonel's Smoking Gun, was originally registered as a Paint because of excessive white.

Anyone remember "Hopalong Cassidy" from the old TV westerns - He rode a gorgeous white horse called Topper. I had the figures but, they were hard plastic and not fun to play with. Probably would have been "priceless" by now.

I don't remember watching Hop A Long Cassidy.
