It's nothing like it started out to be Pasha, but then most holidays aren't now. Do you have any national holidays you celebrate?
Frankly i am not a serious specialist about russian traditions of holidays (all my past life i was too busy for any holidays), but if to look something like that... Usually a large bird (a big fat turkey or more often a big goose) is customarily prepared for the New Year. Previously, they were specially fattened for this, now we are slowly returning to this tradition.

I believe many people in many countries are finding old traditions again. Newer isn't always better.
