I do fix such conditions,,, I also reinforce the entry point so cord does not make a sharp bend . I recently repaired my Vacuum cleaner cord. I did not get a smokeout,,,, just vacuum stopped running, and problem was easily visible.

This is reason you need a High Jules Surge protector, on your sensitive electronics. I usually try to unplug my electronics during thunderstorms. Not always home when it happens.

We have a Seiemens unit installed in the panel for the very reason. Replacing computers is expensive.

We have soooooo many power outages here in wildfire country (thanks, PG&E). We bought uninterrupted power supplies that stay on long enough to give our generator time to kick in.
