in this random rambling thread we post random pictures

Lecho
Tomatoes+peppers+onions+1l water + 4 big spoons salt and sugar (everything has to be cut)

when it will be ready (onion and front should become soft), put to jars (do not close jars! cover with lids, but do not screw), put in hot water and boil again. Usually a thin, clean rag is placed on the bottom of the pot before placing the jar

next time close the jars, wait 5 minutes and put on top. When it will be cold, take this to the cellar.
Сooking takes several hours, it takes an hour and a half to boil jars in water (boiling time depends on the size of the jar, a 3l jar boils for an hour and a half, a liter jar boils for 40 minutes), but later it is a very convenient semi-finished product for meat, pizza and other dishes.

TL;DR wrong setup for shooting storms, but still got a couple decent shots with what I had.

I didn't have my normal storm chasing camera with me this weekend because I was only planning to be shooting during the day at my son's golf tournament. It's complicated, but for now I have 2 cameras with totally different lens setups because I'm transitioning between old and new rigs, and I haven't ordered the primes I normally shoot with for the new rig. So all I had was a 28-70mm and a 70-300mm zoom that were both f/4.5 and not my fast f/2 16mm prime. (camera nerd talk, sorry. iykyk)

Anyhow, a bit of a storm rolled though and I figured I'd try and shoot it since I need to figure out settings on this rig anyway. They turned out better than I was expecting, so I'm super excited to get my primes and really go shoot with this baby. :)

Now, off to sift 1200 golf team shots and post them for parents...

I LUV ♥️ Dogwoods. Tried growing in my backyard, a while ago. Just would not thrive for me. Other flowering trees, did make it and are tall and grown now. I'm in a cooler zone than you are.
Is that pix from one of your Dogwoods??
Sometimes nurseries sell stock not really intended for the zone,,,, but who is to stop that. I tried growing peaches. They must have been a warm climate variety, like Georgia peaches. Did not live, and produce long,,,, before trees died. I know there are suited varieties for my area. Southern Michigan, and Northern Indiana,, are filled with peach orchards,, as well as other fruit orchards. I'm in same weather zone.
No, that was a wild dogwood, they are all over in our woods. Many nurseries offer domestic (tame) dogwoods but they are not the same. We tried taking cuttings from the wild ones but they didn't "take" for us, perhaps we took them too late in the year. Interestingly, the chickens loved them, I had to protect them from them or they would have devoured the poor things! Have you tried peaches from Stark Bros.? I got some from them years ago when I lived in NM and they were excellent although they did take a couple of years to bear fruit.

My gardening, plans have changed since then. I mainly focus on flowers, and flowering trees,,,, although peach trees do produce nice blooms in the spring. At current time,, have no place (spot) for a peach tree. Things may change as other things die off in time.
For always,,,,,,,,, I seek out images in clouds. :frow Does anyone else see the image of a face looking towards the upper right corner?? :idunno

This post of mine will be devoted to meanness and deceit.
Yesterday I continued to do canning.

Look what one of the jars showed me! The bottom just took off and fell off, now it's not a jar, but some kind of glass funnel!

Fortunately, there were no pieces of broken glass there, and I managed to transfer the lecho from this jar to the pan in time. :)

I know you do a lot of self sufficiency items,, Will you be fermenting Cabbage, and also pickling pickles,, (cucumbers) ? My mom used to pickle in brine only. No vinegar. I still purchase from store Pickles in Brine,, and use for pickle soup.
I do not do any canning myself, for many many years now. My gardening is limited to container growing. Most of my plant growing is focused on flowers.

Yes, but the cabbage will only be ready in the fall while it is growing. I preserve cucumbers, there is vinegar, but somewhere around two tablespoons per 3 liter jar. Vinegar Russian is 9%.
I am unemployed, so it is easier for me to prepare my own products than to buy in a store. Plus, homemade food often tastes better.
I don’t add vinegar to tomato lecho or sauerkraut, it’s not needed there (based on the recipes that I use).
Initially, we planned to have a plot of only a decorative look, with flowers and bushes, but then somehow it turned out that we began to grow many different things. I make a lot of canned food, besides I raise goats and various poultry. Although it can not be called farming - I do not sell anything. My money for petty expenses comes from my late grandmother's rented apartment, and my parents also receive a state pension.
From flowers (from roses) it is sometimes customary to make Turkish delight, but I have not figured out this technology yet.
