in this random rambling thread we post random pictures

April 16 is Easter in Russia (we use an old/ancient calendar in our religion), it is customary to paint boiled eggs here. This is usually done by boiling eggs with beets or onion husks. I boiled several goose and chicken eggs.

Usually I try to incubate goose eggs, but these were taken during a cold snap (it was freezing outside and they were very cold), so I put them in the refrigerator for food.

Serbia is also Eastern Orthodox. My crew trhere is on public holiday today for Easter Monday.

It's all gorgeous. I'm in east Texas. I'm about 2 1/2 hours NW of Shreveport.
Our humidity is horrid. We have a pretty place, but sadly, no cypress.

I loved the mossy trees when I lived in the south.

Wow...lucky lucky you ❤️

Looks delicious 😋!

Your grandson took those? Nice work!

Of course, there are drawbacks...like bugs etc.

We're in SW VA, on the Pigg River.

Bugs can be bad. We have sand and horse flies bad after August or so in some places. To the point they attack the vehicle when you stop.

Never been anymore north than Alexandria.

My wife is from Kentucky and calls live oaks (with the moss) scary movie trees.

I love where I live but it's kinda becoming a resort village cause of the bayous. Everybody and thier grandma comes here to kayak the bayous. I wouldn't mind but they're soo loud. Yelling and screaming they really ruin the best part, the tranquil Ness of it all.

The last three pics are during the night of all saints day. The day after Halloween. It's called the night of the dead. We have alot of Choctaw Indians and it is a ceremony in which long ago the Indians would go make fires in the woods, and thier cemetaries and chant and sing and it is believed the fire was lit to give their ancestors spirits a way to guide them to the Choctaw and they talked with the spirits and asked for guidance. Nowadays they do the lighting of the Graves in like a tribute to thier ancestors that did it a century before them. It's really beautiful but to outsiders it can be really freaky, creepy. But it's all for good.

We lucked out when we found our place. Been here about 30 years, and have no plans to leave.

There was a contingent offer on the house when we offered on it, so we took it out from under someone. We paid the full asking price, minus $400 for a spot of roof that needed repair. After we'd been here and realized how REALLY lucky we are, I wondered if the people who had the contingent offer found anything as nice.
