Monument to the writer Mikhail Sholokhov in Moscow. This author wrote about the russian civil war (1917), the Second World War (1941), the formation of the Soviet Union and the life of ideological communists in difficult times.
He is quite a gifted and interesting author, but he has very few comic works. In the monument he is depicted sailing in a boat...
Well, every year some jokers have been making hares out of snow for decades now, giving a reference to a completely different person - grandfather Mazai from a popular poetic story for children here, in which the poet Nekrasov (1821-1878) describes the story of the rescue of hares by some elderly peasant during the melting of ice and snow on the river and the spring flood.
As I understand it, every winter the monument to the writer Sholokhov turns into a monument to grandfather Mazai, rescuing hares. And in the spring it thaws and again becomes a monument to the writer.

I just discovered this photo on one of the entertainment sites where various news and gossip are discussed. Well, I decided to repost this here, accompanied by a comment (otherwise it’s unlikely that anyone would have understood this joke with hares).
In general, in Russia, joking with monuments is quite dangerous, it can even end in a criminal offense under which joker can go to prison, but here, apparently, they forgive, because hares are not an insult to the writer.
The poem about the boat and the hares is really old, but it hardly makes sense to translate it into English - the whole rhyme will be lost.
