Degus are kind of like a large Gerbil but only come in one color. They have furry tails, typical Gerbil head, a moderately large body, and high energy.

A good picture of one.

my best friend ever was a wild eastern wood rat that I raised up. I miss her to this day.
I was in college at the time, so both of us were nocturnal. We got to spend a lot of time together. She would get bored when I had too much work to do. She'd attack my pencils and bite off the erasers until I spent some quality time with her. When you have a rat asleep in your shirt pocket... life is good.
