I'm seriously considering doing this to an old electric I have sitting around:

I took an old foxed cookbook and did that to the wall behind my kitchen sink. I used wall paper paste and the coated it several times with spray clear acrylic. If you plan to use it, I would get decoupage gunk-hodgepodge?- and use that. It will require a lot more time but will be worth the effort.
My wall looks really neat. and it was fun and easy to do.
