In your experince, do dogs help keep away predators???

Predators 0
Dogs 10 (at least) that's how many opposums and raccoons they have killed in the last 4 years that I have had them.... Who knows how many were smart enough to stay out of the yard LOL!
I have a black lab mix and a golden retriever mix both adopted as pups from the local animal shelter. They have been around my birds since day 1 and I haven't had many issues with them.... We also have a beagle and even though he makes a lot of noise he wouldn't harm a fly...
They are the best thing I have ever done in regards to protecting my flock...they are great family dogs too and very spoiled (and kept very utd on their rabies vaccination!)

I should rephrase the predators 0 We had a terrible snake problem in our brower brooder last year that was in the feed room. I lost over 20 chicks and still couldn't keep them out so I didn't even use it at all this year....what a waste! Anyhow, didn't add those in there because the dogs couldn't have done anything about the snakes.

I have 100's of free range birds and while they have roost in the safe zone at night ,they do not have a coop to go in at night and i can tell ya without my dogs here i would never be able to do this.
Here are some of my guns

Anytime a predator enters the safe zone it will be taken out by two dog in particular, a anatolian/great pyrenees and a pitbull

I agree with you I do the same thing with my dogs only they can run free in the yard with the chickens.

When I hatched my chickens I showed them to the dogs and said, look at the babies, I left them (the chicks) run around in a room where the dogs were so they got used to them. I would trust my dogs with my chickens it's the poor dogs that get attacked by the chickens.

He's trying to run away from him. lol

Yes, dogs are a great deterrent to predators, esp if they can guard the coop at night (when most predators come out looking for a free chicken meal), in my case, my dog is the predator, and she is fenced out of the bird area or she would kill them all, so make sure you get the right kind of guard dog...
