My brood hen hatched chicks a few weeks ago, and I'm contemplating keeping one of the roos to replace my grumpy roo. Would putting him into the flock with his mom be I'll advised? I could possibly hatch out more chicks in the future, so it's possible that chicks could come from the two related chickens. Does inbreeding make a huge difference withchickens?

Breeding mom to son is not a problem, it is very common thing for some serious breeders to do so. Same for father and daughter breedings.

Brother and sister would either hit the jackpot or you would get a bunch of culls. It is your call LOL!

Good luck!

Look up "line breeding." There's been alot written on it - very popular among the experts. It sort of flies in the face of what we are taught as people, but I guess those rules don't apply to birds.

Thanks for the replies everyone! The roo in question is just so darn handsome that I don't want to give him up. I'll check out line breeding, more research is a good thing.
