I don't believe that's correct. LED are more lumens, less watts. Energy in makes energy out, we can't make energy from thin air or we'd have self perpetuating electric plants.
Therefore- less watts used equates to less heat.
This is true, lighting switched to lumens as a measurement after the introduction of LEDs. Halogens and incandescents use high levels of wattage to achieve "Bright" lights, they both used elements that burned surrounded by argon, the constantly burning elements gave off heat
New LEDS are 9 or 12 watt relating to 60 0r 100w bulbs they are a similar amount of lumans but virtually no heat is generated, the light is created within tiny diodes.
I would recommend to anyone picking up a brooder, a 30 chick brooder will set you back 30 GBP, it runs on 20watts and can comfortably hold 24 chicks, ive had mine for 2.5 years and done 5 hatched with it, in terms of electricity requirements its paid for itself several times over, the added bonus is that your chicks will quickly get used to a more natural day and night cycle.
