Increase rooster's libido

I have a 2 year old rooster housed with 3 other hens of similar age and size. So far this season I have failed to detect fertilisation in any of the eggs from this breeder flock. I have watched the flock quite closely over the last few weeks and rarely seen him mating (and even then has never been seen to mate 2/3 of the hens).

Does anybody have any suggestions to boost his Libido?
Or any helpful hints for collecting semen for AI? (I have tried and failed on a few occasions)

Where are you located? In the next few months in the northern hemisphere birds will slowly increase production and mating.

Some submissive roosters don't mate as often and will sometimes favor a single hen because it's easy.

Hormones are dictated by light, and age of birds.

What are you feeding? Roosters shouldn't be fed a layer ration.

I'm located in the southern hemisphere, it's still mid-late summer here.

They are fed a commercial breeder pellet. Recently had some commercial grower thrown in (when stocks ran low).

Than his libido will be falling. He may even be close to molting. A healthy fertile rooster will have a big bright plump comb, and often a flush of red between his toes. I'd give him a good going over to check for body condition, and external parasites. If he doesn't feel well he won't mate as much or at all.

Most roosters mate very fast, and some won't mate in front of a dominant owner so you may be missing it.

How long have they been together?
What breeds?
Sometimes fluffier butted bird need to be plucked around vent to ensure good contact.

They are D'Uccle cross. His favourite he's been with for 18 months, the other 2 about 6 months.

All other roosters on property still quite active with their hens.

Anybody had luck with collection? That way I could at least analyse the semen under the microscope.

I would love to rule out other infertility issues before I write him off as infertile.

You could try penning him up for a few days to a week or so, than add a hen to the pen. He should breed her within the first 10 minutes if there's nothing wrong with him.

You could than just put a different hen on with him every few days to a week to make sure he's breeding them. I also suppose it's possible to swab the cloaca of a hen after mating to get a sperm sample, but I'm not sure.

I put my rooster in a cage with another hen for about 2 days I let the hen leave and left the rooster there after the 3 or 4 day I left him and first he does is inspect his territory and mount the girls. I kid you not, he mounted each girl about four times and he spilled semen all over the floor. He was mating like crazy I have 8 hens and that dude just went berserk.


You want to make sure he is eating and drinking well

He also covered some of the ladies in semen pretty crazy stuff.
