I recently had an illness go through my small flock of young Ameraucanas. I lost a few hens very quickly, but the cockerel, who didn't seem to get as severe a case as the hens, has survived. He is 24 weeks old and very thin now with not much muscle on the breast. He is now vigorous and active, but I would like to get weight back on him as quickly as I can and keep him healthy.

I have read in some much older posts about feeding cream of wheat and yogurt mixed and about feeding bits of beef liver. I was wondering if current thinking was any different.

Any suggestions?

Is he the lone survivor? If so, I'd be cautions of bringing new birds into your flock b/c some diseases are so tenacious that any new birds coming onto your property will be infected by him. I'd want to find out what his disease was, and what the etiology of that disease is.

No. There are 3 others. They were completely unaffected and have remained healthy and vigorous throughout.
