incubate question

What is the normal temperature to incubate eggs?
Welcome to BYC!

If you have an incubator with a fan it's 99.5 f (37.5 c).
If no fan I think it's two degrees Fahrenheit higher.

Temperatures are measured at the top of the egg.

Yes... 99.5 air temp with a fan, measured at yolk level, or around 101 still air.

However I did find out that thermometers can be unreliable and suggest checking the eggshell temps with a infrared thermometer if you have one around from kids or something. Eggshell temps should be 100-101 F so adjust your air temps accordingly.

Speaking of fans... I have 2 of these incubators, on one the fan doesn't work, I hatched chicks in the other one, but would it still be okay to run the one with out a fan? Please only answer IF you know thank you.

If it would be like a still air, then the temp would have to be 102.

I can't speak for this incubator specifically, but the difference between a still air incubator and a forced draft is not simply whether or not there is a fan. A still air incubator (no fan) still must circulate the air somehow, which is achieved by convection. Still air incubators are specially designed to allow for proper airflow to keep the eggs consistently warmed.

If you have a forced draft incubator with a broken fan, my experience has been that the temperature is nearly impossible to regulate. The incubator is not designed to allow for convection, meaning the air does not circulate properly. Some eggs will be hotter than others, and the temp itself may simply skyrocket.

Hope this helped!
