Well, my ducks have been setting for about 13 days now, and I just went out to candle a couple eggs, and one of them is totally filled up, like it could hatch any day now, while the other one looks like the 13 days it is.....How could this happen? They're both moving, but the larger one has more subtle movements, just a little up and down movement around the air sack, while the smaller one is basically jumping around in the egg! Ok, not quite, but he looks like he's kicking and it's sooo cute! But why would this happen? I mean, the smaller one looks 13 days old, while the larger one looks like the ones I've candled that are about to hatch! Could it have started developing before mama duck started setting? I mean, she waited until she had 15 eggs, but I've read that kept at room temperature, eggs won't start developing, so what's going on? Should I be concerned? Also, I don't know how this happened, but the smaller duckling's egg has a little crack in it.....Not something that goes all the way through it looks like, but you can still just barely see the jagged line.....Do you think he can still make it? He looks sooo active! But a crack can't be good.....Please help!

Oh, and by the way, the larger duckling is totally filled up to the egg sack, while the smaller one looks a little less that halfway full.

Any ideas?
No I don't have any ideas was she sitting off and on before she finish laying her clutch? and I have heard of folks using candle wax to put a seem over a crack in a shell but how would you keep it from going down into the egg shell?

No, she started setting one day and almost never gets off. Melted candle wax, or would you just rub a candle over the crack? The crack isn't open or anything, I mean, the sides of it are pressed tightly together, so it's almost like it isn't there and I don't think the wax would get through it, but is even that big enough for harmful bacterial to get inside?

I'm not sure then why one egg would be so far ahead, you'll just have to watch and wait I guess, but for the candle wax i'm not sure I read it on here so you could probably find it, I can't imagine pouring hot wax on an egg though. not sure about bacteria being able to get inside. Looks like I'm no help sorry.
