Incubating birds just to kill the unwanted chicks.

In most states it is legal to shoot hens on hunting preserves (I know in IA it is for sure), we raise about 9000 a year. We pay 20 cents less for hens then we do straight run chicks at a day old, I wish they were 5 cents, let us know what hatchery is selling them for 4 5 cents please? To me this smells animal rights or anti hunting or both.

Sorry you aren't doing taxidermy anymore. Some people fail to recognize it as a blend of science and art. At the same time, the most popular memorable exhibit at the park under the Arch in St. Louis is the buffalo. There is a park ranger standing within 5' of it at all times because people love that thing and want to touch it.

Why are non-native birds allowed to be raised and released only to be killed by "hunters" as a "sport".
Don't we have enough problems with non-native species of birds like English house sparrows (actually a weaver finch) and Euopean starlings and the many numberous non-native plants and forbs, e.g., fescue grass that isn't fit for our native wildlife to eat.

Colorado still considers pheasants "native" and they are controlled by the Department of Wildlife. You have to have a permit to raise them, and a liscense to shoot them.

They maybe arent technically "native" but neither are Mustangs and they are controlled by the government.

That was totally off topic, I know.

I think someone should raise all those cheap baby pheasants. I bet you could make a good profit off of them, selling them for meat!

Not that I think it is in any way wrong to kill them, but I'm just thinking that's really cheap meat! Does anyone have a link where you can get them that cheap?

They are considered native in many states, even though they were first released in Oregon, they have been living and breeding in the wild in many states for decades.

I kill every English house sparrow I see, but wouldn't want to 'sport' hunt them. Not much meat on them bones and I don't kill anything I don't intend on eating. That fescue doesn't taste good either.

Seeing posts like these make me want to strip off nekkid to protest fur one day then dress up and champion embryonic stem cell research!

Wow. I am surprised that they would destroy them. It seems like they would have a market even if they were really cheap. I understand the arguement that culling = killing but it would seem that culling for food is a bit different than culling to eliminate a unwanted by product.
I'd love to try pheasant if it came in a styrofoam container. Yes I am a weenie when it comes to doing in my own food. I appreciate the irony and hypocrasy that goes along with that as well.
