I have started hatching some eggs in my incubator. They are starting to pip.
The other night one of my aracauna chicks hatched. He;she was very strong. Yeeped alot.
At 1:00 I had it under the heat lamp on soft towels....I went to bed......at 3:00 I got up to find it gone. :(
What am I doing wrong? Because another one is starting to pip. I am nervous that I did something wrong.

Hello and

,
I don't have much experience with hatching eggs so I can't help you :( But you can ask in the Incubating & Hatching Eggs forum for better help! You can also check out the learning center for helpful articles on the subject. Good luck!

You mean it died? What is the temperature /humidity in the incubator? If it is too hot that may have killed it especially if it didn't have enough room to get away from the heat.

A new born chick can also perish if it is too cold. Could you put up a photo of your incubator, so we can see if anything looks amiss? I'm sorry you lost a chick, hope the others will be fine.

yeah it died. Another one hatched today and I moved it to the brooder box where I have the heat lamp on it...with soft towels. So far it seems fine......about 8 hours old...
I put a thermometer in the box to keep track of the temp......it is around 98 or so...... I have put a dish of water (with marbles so it wont drown) ......will it drink if it needs to?

Baby chicks don't know what or how to eat or drink. You can tap on the water dish that's what mama would do and see if he will drink or gently tip his beak into water so he learns what it is. You can tap on the feed dish too. Usually for the first day or two, it's not necessary for them to eat. That is why hatcheries ship out day old chicks. Absorbing their yolk sac before birth, nourishes them.

Make sure they don't have' pasty butt' (put that term in the search box for information. Basically it's when their poo ends up plastered to their behind. They cannot poo anymore until that is cleaned off. They can die from that if unattended. Sending good hatching vibes your way
