incubating costs?

I'd like to mention the thrill of candling an egg and seeing the chick dancing inside the shell! Waaaay too cool!

Just came up from the basement and candling some of my eggs. Saw some little ones dancing....but not as many as I had hoped.

I'll wait a few days and candle again. It is definately exciting tho.

I had no idea that buying eggs to hatch would cost so much. I'll definitely scrap that idea, but may consider hatching some of my Rhode Island eggs since I also keep a big ole RIR rooster.

My own eggs cost about 12.5 pennies each since we sell the extras for $1.50/dozen.

Now if I could get some chicks for $.13 each instead of paying ~ $3.00 each for day olds, now we are talking. I'll have to kick this around some more...
