K. I have a homemade incubator that is not doing the best job at regulating temps. Temps are fluctuating every few minutes, from about 96 to 103. While I work on regulating this, I need to know what to do with the duck egg I have inside. He is on Day 3 of a 28-day incubation cycle. Next to him, in a reliable incubator, I have 24 quail who will be going on lockdown on Tuesday. Ducks humidity need to be at about 65%, and quail need to be at about 45%.

Since it is so early in the duck's incubation cycle, can I put the egg in with the quail for a few days while I regulate the temp? Or should I keep him where he is? I believe that temps inside the egg do not vary quite as much, so I have made a water wiggler and am checking now to see what that temp measures as.

Perhaps I can keep the duck egg where it is, and then on Tuesday, I can up the quail humidity to 65, as per schedule, and put the duck egg in there, so both duck and quail eggs will be properly incubated.

Hope you all followed all of this.

Edited to say - went ahead and put the duck egg in with the quail. Temp is 100 and humidity is 50% - seems to be the best compromise for them all. Quail need to be at about 45% and ducks need about 55%, so this will have it work for the next three days until I can move everything to a hatcher.
