Incubating eggs

I have 8 eggs in incubation and its day 23, im a little worried that they have not hatched yet. This is my first time. One of the eggs has a brownish yellow substance around it. There have been no pipping or anything. I heard that eggs can go until day 25 but thats about it. Most of the eggs came warm from the chicken copp but two of them were already refrigerated.

On day 23 I would start being concerned that something was off. Is your Bator still air or forced with a fan? What did you run your temp at? What about humidity? Where did you get your eggs from? How did they look when you candled them? And is the substance leaking from the egg? Any smell?

Ok so there is a weird smell coming from it, the bator is run by air, its a pretty simple incubator, the temp is 38.4 celcius. I got my eggs from my hens, (i dont know exactly what type of hens they are except for the easter egger) when candeled they looked fine, i used a bright flashlight in a dark room.

If that temp is accurate it's good. What was your humidity the first 17 days? If there is a smell and oozing, you need to pull them out and throw out the smeller and candle for life in the rest. It is rare to have eggs hatch healthy at day 25. (I don't hold out much hope past day 23-24) The farther from day 21 you get, the more likely that any chicks that do hatch will have problems.

x2 with everything that she said. I know it is disappointing but I tend to agree. If I ever have any late hatchers it is usually just one out of a batch. I think that if the eggs were salvageable then you would have at least had some one pip, heard chirping, or seen rocking.

It is not a fun part of hatching eggs, but you may want to consider an eggtopsy. Before you do that though, candle your eggs and make sure that there is no movement. If you see none, then consider opening them up. It will help to determine when the eggs died. If they are fully developed but very wet, you may have a humidity problem. If they died earlier on, depending on what you see it could be something else.

Ok so i cracked the egg that was oozing, i put it inside a sealed baggy and i cracked it with a spoon. A yellow and black substance came out of it. The smell wasnt as strong thanks to the baggy, but im a little confused, i couldnt see a fetus with the greenish black substance. Im going to wait for day 25 before i crack the others. Thanks for the help

Sounds like bacteria build up in the egg.
