Incubating fails? All the things you wish you had known ..

Ok I'll start ..
For my very first attempt, and disaster, I incubated 9 fertile eggs in a forced air/fan incubator with no vents and only opened it to candle and add water, most of the chicks probably died due to lack of oxygen. Well who knew eggs needed fresh oxygenated air? Only two chicks miraculously survived my lack of knowledge and that incubator.

I moved on to still air incubator, again not knowing I should have been moving those eggs around inside...

I learned when making ones own incubator dyi 2 fans is a must. One that constantly circulates air and one hooked up to the cooling part of the thermostat to blow across the bulb when it gets to hot. Also, let shipped eggs sit for 2 days pointy side down before setting.

I learned not to rely on the thermometer or hygrometers from the incubator no matter how much you spend on the incubator.

The first time I set eggs, I used a still air incubator that had the thermometers set too low. I later discovered that the temperature I was running at was approximately 105*F.
