Incubating goose eggs at a low temperature?

Aaah but its lovely!! ... open incubator, rest point of thermometer on egg, press button, viola!! you have an immediate reading of the actual egg temp. You can check both ends, and top/bottom of each egg and you know exactly how they're doing.

The issue was that the screen died ... so after the first use, it still checks the temperature but keeps it secret!!:he

Anyway, I have candled the eggs now, out of 4, one was not fertile, and 1 died very early, only a couple of days in ... that may have been when the goose left them because she had sat on them for one day, got wet (it rained) and then she went back to laying instead.

The other two are going strong ... they appear to be at a normal stage of development for this time, so far so good.

Added another two today ... the goose has sat on the nest for a couple of days now, but she leaves all the time to graze for some reason, and I just snuck a look and 2 eggs were separated off, not in the nest proper and stone cold.

I think they were the oldest, the newest have been put in the centre. They may be too old, she probably knows it, but I'll give them a chance and see how they go.

Well the first two eggs are supposedly due in two days.

They're now in a different incubator which is running at a normal temp for them. So they spent the first 16 days at 36C, then were moved to a new incubator at the normal 37.6C.

They are healthy and developing nicely, kicking when I candle them. But, they are behind, there is WAY too much liquid left for only 2 days to go compared to normal ... I'm expecting a probably 34 day incubation instead of 30.

There are two eggs to follow them who had only the first 9 days at the low temperature. They're not due for 10 days yet though. Although the goose had thrown them out they're perfectly OK and also growing and kicking away in there.

Glad to hear they are coming along ok,

Sorry I have not responded much lately.. I was under the weather for a couple weeks. I think I will be staying above ground a little longer now.
