Incubating Grocery store quail eggs

that’s how i ordered my second set of coturnix eggs and i got lucky in choosing myshire farm who is one of the best quail egg sources available!! what state are you in?? you can add your location to your profie......

I'm in florida. I'm not sure how my hatch rate will be. I actually got a "sampler" with multiple types of quail eggs because they're going to be more pets than anything so I thought it would be nice to have a variety. However, if the hatch rate isn't great, it's good to know where you've had success for my next purchase!

I'm still figuring out the site. I've been on many times reading answers to questions I've had but only took the plunge and made an account yesterday.

Next time, when you set your ordered eggs...keep your humidity lower around 30%.
45-50% is way too high in my opinion.
Also...there is no real need to raise it until you see the first external pip and then I still wouldn't raise it above 50%.
I've found that the humidity raises itself once the first egg starts to zip. I think the inside of the egg is wet enough to do it?

That's awesome! Did she hatch right on time? I was worried at first because it looked like she was a few days behind in development. She was still pretty small on day 7. Now I think she's on track but I can't tell for sure because I dont candle often. I'm still trying to decide if I should lockdown today or tomorrow. Today is day 14 (with the day the eggs were set being day 1). What do you think? Today or tomorrow?
It won't make a difference...you can stop turning either day.

Thanks!
Can you ask that seller if they house each color separately or if he just keeps his birds in mixed cages.
She got back to me very quickly! Here is her exact message as well as the picture she sent me:

Hello!

Have attached a photo of our new hen barn (still adding cages, etc) We keep all Coturnix colors Separate. This way I selectively hand chose a few eggs from each color to give you a Nice Mix! Or for folks wanting a specific color can select theirs from the appropriate cage. We monitor our bloodlines by eye as well as records that are kept. Turning over our hens every 10 months. These new hens are selected by hand choosing Nice Eggs from our best cages, with a new bloodline brought in every 2 years. A lot of record keeping, but we have well tempered, Healthy, Strong, Nice Sized Birds and eggs.

Thank you for your interest in our birds.

Cheryl

I really appreciate you doing this.
I'm really excited to follow along with that hatch too.
I'm curious to see what colors you end up with.

I think I stopped turning the egg on 14th day...and I remember her hatching precisely in time, a textbook case like, peeping at day 16.5, zipping almost exactly at day 17. I heard of chicks popping out at any time from day 15~19, so I would wait out until day 19 if you are worried that they are a little slow? Again, wish you best luck!
