Incubating & Hatching Seramas

Hi all! I've recently decided to start breeding and sharing my love of Seramas. I have a couple different breeding pair, however, I was looking for some advice on what was done when you incubated them for the best hatch rate. I've incubated before, but had only one out of 14 hatch, and that was because I had a really junky incubator, so now that that issue is fixed, I'm looking for just a couple of tips, tricks, hints of the trade.

I’ve never incubated that breed before but I’ll try to help. What was your humidity days 1-18 and at lockdown on your first hatch. And also what is your relative humidity in your house? And did you use still or forced air then? And what are you using now?

I used still air then, and I just got a new forced air incubator now. Humidity days 1-18 were between 40&50%.

I honestly can’t tell you what my humidity is in my house I’m sorry.

Those temps sound ok for days 1-18. So your at lockdown now? I wouldn’t go with real high humidity at lockdown. If you have two hatching at the same time it could raise your humidity 15-20%. If you do not live in an area that has dry humidity I would recommend dry hatching. I just finished my first dry hatch batch. It took a little over 24 hours and had 100% hatch on marans, brahmas, and polish. My humidity for days 1-18 was 23-32%. Lockdown was 50-55%. When I had two hatching at a time my humidity would spike up to 72-76%. When just one was hatching it would go up about 10%. The experience of your bad batch was probably due to the still air incubator. I’ve never used one but I have heard tons of horror stories about them. Good luck finishing up this batch.

Yup. Had a bad experience with still air too. One is all it took before going to forced air.

I just had my first hatch ever and it was with Seramas. 7 eggs placed and 7 eggs hatched. I used the Brinsea Mini II advance. Humidity was about 40-45%. Lockdown day 17 and humidity bumped to 65% at that point. Pips at day 19, 6 hatched day 20 and the last one at 4am day 21.
