Hi guys,

I had some eggs shipped to me, and picked them up from the post office yesterday. I let them rest and am going to set them this afternoon.

I have incubated before but this time I’m borrowing a friend’s incubator as I need to order a new fan for mine. This incubator has an automatic turner and mine is manual. When I hatched before I was under the impression that for the first 24 hours IN the incubator, I am not supposed to turn the eggs, in order for them to warm up. Is that true or did I mess up for my other hatches?

I’m just not sure if I’m supposed to start using the turner as soon as I set the eggs in today or wait until tomorrow. Thanks for your help!

Some people put them in the incubator instantly with shipped eggs, but they don't turn the turner on for the first 24 hours. This allows the egg to get all situated and make sure that the air cells and such are good.

Some allow the eggs to rest for 24 hours on the counter and then they put them in the incubator with the turner on.

You already allowed the eggs to rest so I would just start the turner.

Tell us what kind, in 2 months I am getting olive, LO, SS, welsummer, BA, and partridge rocks eggs.

They are Speckled Sussex.

So, I’m part of a Facebook auction group where you bid on eggs. I have wanted Speckled Sussex for a long time, it’s hard to find any around me (unless you order from a hatchery and I had such a bad experience that I will never do that again).

Anyways, I saw some come up, bid on them without reading the whole post only to figure out afterwards how far away they are from me :lau They came from Quebec and I live in British Columbia! I didn’t expect to win but no one bid against me (gee, maybe because it’s December lmao).

So, they survived the long trip and arrived in perfect condition. We will see how I do on my end!
