Incubating in an egg carton

I'm about to set up a heating pad incubator; can I keep the eggs in a carton while they incubate? I've heard of people doing it for the last few days when they're about to hatch, but will keeping them in there for the 3 weeks be ok?

Yes, you can incubate the full 3 weeks in an egg carton. Cut out the bottoms of the carton to allow air flow around the eggs and make sure you position the eggs with the fat end up, always. Instead of turning the eggs you will need to tilt them, leaving them to rest at a 45* angle. When it's time to tilt them again tilt them 90* in the opposite direction and leave them again at a 45* angle. When the chicks are ready to hatch you can remove the eggs from the carton and lay them flat, this will make it easier for the chick to hatch.

Can you tell us a bit more about your "heating pad incubator"? How did you put it together? Is it holding temperature and humidity well etc? I'm curious

I have chicks hatching from this box-

they are due wed. and thur. I do have a pip hole in an egg.


and I just made this one. these will be due in about 3 weeks.
and I have one of these too.
well more than one.

The 6 eggs that were hatching in the little box all made it. Eggs hatching in the wooden box, had to be moved to hen. The wooden box needed more tweaking.
