Incubating Muscovy Eggs Progress

Some pics of my little babies growing beautifully! Getting a bit hard to see now that they're getting darker. It truly amazes me how much the embryo's grow in just a day! I am impatiently counting down the days. Also trying to stay hopeful that these guys will make it to the end

they are due to hatch smack bam right on my daughters birthday aswell, the 25th of Feb. What a wonderful birthday present that would be for her!

Air cells look better now, after keeping the bator dry for 2 days.. have added in a small amount of water again.

Day 14

The whole process amazes me. How that little duckling can even fit in the egg by hatching time is so astonishing to me; I am amazed every time one hatches.

It really is amazing isn't it. And I know right! I've seen heaps of muscovy hatchlings for sale, only a day or two old.. and wonder how on earth they rolled up and fit perfectly in their egg! They look so much bigger once they're out. It must be so uncomfortable for them towards the end, haha.

I filmed one of the eggs moving lastnight -
I swear in some eggs I can see toes or something, or claws? It's so strange. Can almost identify parts of their bodies, they look so big already but yet they still have ages to go..
why must Muscovy's take such a long time

Thanks for sharing I love to candle and watch them moving around inside the egg.

It really is amazing how much bigger they are once they pop out and dry than when they were squeezed inside of that egg.

I can see right now I am going to have a very hard time going duckling less this year.

They're worth waiting for...but I agree that the anticipation is excruciating.

You get spoiled with chickens and a three week incubation...

Would you's say muscovy's make nice pets? I plan on keeping one or two for myself as family pets, and giving the rest to family or other good homes.
Have they got a nice nature? enjoy cuddles etc? I have seen some very cute affectionate muscovy videos on youtube, I think it's adorable how they wag their tails

Start them out as hatching lings yes. I have one who was rejected by his mom and even though he is going on 6 yrs old he is like a puppy loves to come inside and spend time with us we're his mom and dad. lol I hope you have already asked your family about whether they would like ducklings they are not for everyone. They aren't enough words to say how much I love these ducks.
