I purchased my Hova-Bator incubator and egg turner this morning from my local feed store and set it up. I was able to get the temperature and humidity regulated and started my first run of eggs this evening. I had 37 eggs that I had collected over the last three days. My grandchildren were very excited as we put our first eggs in the incubator (as was I). We marked the days on the calendar so we know when to remove the turner and when to expect some chicks. Hopefully, we are doing everything correctly and will have a successful incubation.
This site has been a great source of information as I built my coop last year, raised two sets of chicks and got them through the winter. I have sold 12 roosters over the past 8 months. I now have 1 RIR Rooster, 10 RIR hens and 2 Australorp hens. For the last several weeks I have been getting ten to twelve eggs per day with twelve per day for the last three days. My egg sales and rooster sales have offset a good portion of my feed costs, not to mention all the delicious eggs that have graced our table. I'm hoping to be able to hatch off chicks to grow my flock and to be able to sale some as well.
